NATHALIE'S HOTEL PORTRAIT *
An elegant Raffles Hotel in Geneva
There are over 130 hotels in Geneva, from small family pensions to Leading Hotels of the World. One of my favourite 5-star palaces is the Swissôtel Metropole, ideally located in the city centre and overlooking the lake. In fact, it's the only luxury hotel of Geneva's left bank and the perfect venue for both business and leisure. Since June 2001 it is a Raffles International Hotel.
Over the past four years the Swissôtel has renovated its 127 rooms and suites. They are all equipped with the latest amenities and communication tools such as CD/DVD players, tea and coffee maker, desk including voice mail, fax machine and modem connection. Each room benefits from natural daylight and 2 of them have direct access to the panoramic terrace on the top floor. In March 2003, this superb Grand Hotel will launch its new Presidential suite, a 300 m2 layout including a living room, a dining room for 15 guests, a master bedroom and a bathroom including Jacuzzi, Turkish bath and sauna and two other bedrooms with their own private bathroom. The Hotel also includes a Business Centre and recently opened an Amrita Fitness Centre.
The hotel's gourmet restaurant “Le Grand Quai” caters for every taste and has just launched a seafood buffet, every Thursday evening. My tip for a delicious snack: try the “caviar menu”, offered at the English bar.
The hotel was built in 1854 and thus has recently celebrated its 150 years in November 2004.
